Best learning remote for it's price, June 13, 2011 By This review is from: Philips SRP5107/27 Universal Remote Control featuring Simple Setup (Black) (Electronics) Was forced to get the new Comcast Transcoder boxes since they are switching to digital signals only. I went through 10 other 'universal' remotes. Non of them have built in codes for this Comcast box. Saw on the box for this Phillips "Future proof" and laughed. Boy I was wrong.
Programing method has its perks and down side. You get 1 code for each brand type, and you push and hold power till your device responds. Good cause its simple. But can take a while for the remote to cycle through all those codes for that brand. Plus if you need to reprogram, you will have to go through the whole process again. Can be time consuming for brands with wide range of devices.
You can thou program any device on any button. AKA If you have 3 DVD players, You can program one on the DVD button, one on the HD button, and one on the VCR button. So it is versital which is a nice perk.

Great little remote... works surprisingly well for the money, October 14, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Philips SRP5107/27 Universal Remote Control featuring Simple Setup (Black) (Electronics) My last two remotes were expensive super-programmable do-it-all wonder remotes... and my kids broke them both in a very short time. Especially the last Harmony remote... it lasted 2 weeks.
So I looked for a remote that would be of good quality, and let me reprogram the buttons that it gets wrong.
This remote has worked out great for me... it was *really* fast to program, buttons are all pretty good (though the directional pad *is* too loud), and it's sturdy.
And if the kids break it, no big deal to replace. I honestly recommend this over the Harmonys and Home Theater Master super-remotes.

Philips SRP5107WM remote, I'm disappointed, December 30, 2011 By This review is from: Philips SRP5107/27 Universal Remote Control featuring Simple Setup (Black) (Electronics) Programming this remote uses one manufacturers code to start with. Then during initial setup of the philips SRP5107 remote, you press its power button until the controlled device responds. Philips manual says it may take 60 seconds, but in severe cases may take 15 minutes. While waiting the fifteen minutes for my DVR to respond, the Philips remote turned other devices on and off. The DVR never responded. And my DVR is a Philips/Magnavox -- go figure! Similarly, my SciAtl cable box never responded to the remote. The Vizio TV did respond but few functions worked other than power on off.
I bought this at Walmart for $10. I think their shelf was 100% stocked with returned remotes. I'm returning this one for refund.
