Easy to program, but in the end, it just didn't work for me., July 17, 2012 This review is from: RCA RCR4258N 4 Device Big Button Remote (Black) (Electronics) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?) My electronics were listed as ones compatible with this remote and at first they seemed to be. However, after an easy programming to get them up and running, unfortunately in the end this did not work for me.
I found that I could sometimes turn something on, but then it would not turn off at all so I had to turn if off manually or just the opposite. I would spend endless time re-pushing a button and often it was to no avail. It simply could not replace my regular remote and keep working.
They have a good start with this remote because I've played with other ones that you needed a textbook to program and get up and running, or so it seemed. They made it easy to get up and running...but that is only half the battle. If it doesn't work in the end on all devices for which it claims to, then it simply is of no use.
Either they need to update their list on the back of the remote that says which devices will work with it and make it more accurate or they... Read more

I keep my entertainment system fairly simple so I only use the universal remote that came with my cable box. However, being a guy I tend to "misplace" my remote on a regular basis. I thought that having a back up--like this remote--would be a good idea. In the end, not so much.
I tried to sync with my cable box over 3 dozen times and had no luck. I tried all three methods (Auto Code Search, Brand Code Search and Direct Code Entry) and although it initially turned my Motorola box off it would not control it after that. Same thing with my Samsung Blu-ray/DVD player. However, I could get it to work with my Vizio LCD TV and it work perfectly. All of the TV's functions--including the internet features-- could be accessed. Because of that I will keep it in a drawer in the case that I need it as a back up, but it's not likely.
