An exceptionally versatile device, March 8, 2010 By Thomaspin "Thomaspin" (California) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: RCA RCRP05BR 5 Device Cable Replacement Universal Remote (Black) (Electronics) This is an exceptionally versatile device but it needs some effort to realize its full potential. It's a JP1.3 class remote, meaning that if you procure the related 6 pin cable (the connector is in the battery compartment) you can program it from your PC. This approach gives you the greatest flexibility though I managed to accomplish everything necessary without the cable using just the keyboard on the remote.
As a JP1 device it will accept Enhanced Function Codes which are not even mentioned in the skimpy instruction sheet. Further, the Volume Punch Through instructions provided by the manufacturer are wrong. The site referenced below will allow you to fix that.
With help from experts on the JP1 remote forum (hi-fi-remote dot com) I was even able to program full functionality for my Insignia NS-BRDVD3 BluRay/Netflix player (not available from Amazon, try BestBuy), something the distributor said was impossible!
I was also able to completely... Read more

Best remote for the money, peroid, October 4, 2011 This review is from: RCA RCRP05BR 5 Device Cable Replacement Universal Remote (Black) (Electronics) Thomaspin covered most of it. But there are a few more things you should know. One-for-all remotes like this RCA have the unique ability to add nearly any command for any device without learning using something called EFCs, advanced codes or "magic" codes. If you have a problem finding codes, please post a query at the forum at hifi-remote dot com. We can usually provide codes for any command on any device, including commands in addition to what's on the original remote, like discrete on/off and discrete input codes. In fact, I often have to use my RCA remote to teach my Harmony missing codes. This can easily be done without investing in a programming interface cable, but a cable makes it much easier. The programming software is vastly superior to harmony software and completely independent from any web server. And this remote isn't crippled like similarly priced harmony models like the 300 or 200. Those can only do one macro, aka, activity. The RCA can do at 20 or more, depending on... Read more

Basically an One 4 All remote relabeled as RCA, December 9, 2009 By David Wilson (Chicago, Illinois USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: RCA RCRP05BR 5 Device Cable Replacement Universal Remote (Black) (Electronics) Works with Advanced codes for equipment device codes.
Works well with my Apex Digital HDTV LD3249 with tv device code 1548.
One gripe was the tv device code for my apex was listed under the Astar brand.
