A bumpy start, but now works great, September 22, 2005 By Grrgoyl (Aurora, CO USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: RCA RCU1010 Universal 9 Device Touch Screen Remote Control (Electronics) I don't understand everyone else's negative reviews about the learning feature of this remote. For most of my components it took a little extra time and patience, but it got there eventually. The most trouble I had was with my Apex DVD player; the remote preset code wouldn't work and I had to program each button individually. The functions were "forgotten" a few times, but I patiently kept reprogramming and now it finally seems to have stuck. Sure, if I had paid a ridiculous amount for it, this would be unacceptable, but you ALWAYS get what you pay for. I've learned that lesson time and time again.
When I tried programming a second DVD player onto Aux, it screwed up the main player's settings. I haven't tried it again since successfully getting the first to stay in there. There are 4 Audio buttons which unfortunately only offer soft keys suited for audio operation, not adaptable to DVD players. So for now I'm holding onto my lesser-used player's remote... Read more

Not A Universal Remote, December 27, 2003 By Gadget Fan (Northern Colorado, United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: RCA RCU1010 Universal 9 Device Touch Screen Remote Control (Electronics) The RCA RCU1010 is a nicely designed "universal" remote that's not universal. It wouldn't learn all the codes for a brand new Samsung HD satellite receiver or an older Yamaha audio receiver. On the Samsung, you can't use up and down channels with the DirecTV guide, so you have to enter the channel from the numeric pad. It gets it done, but eliminates the convenience of the guide. On the Yamaha, the input codes in the presets are wrong. The tuner button turns on the VCR, for example. The RCA won't learn the correct codes or learn the codes for other inputs or DSP settings.Setting codes on the equipment that is compatible is tedious. The learning mode is successful in capturing the codes from the other remote only about one in four tries.
If you have all RCA equipment, this is probably a good choice. The macro function has great potential. But if you, like most everyone, have an assortment of manufacturer's equipment, try another remote.

Terrible, February 3, 2004 This review is from: RCA RCU1010 Universal 9 Device Touch Screen Remote Control (Electronics) 1. The encloded codes do *not* cover the functions of amplifiers and dvd players completely.
2. Adding new keys (label learning) can cause main keys to disappear...you must start over by resetting the device.
3. There is great difficulty adding codes. It will not accept certain remote codes. This is best avoided!!!
