Don't waste your money, November 12, 2007 By This review is from: Philips SRU4050/17 Universal Compact Remote (Silver/Black) (Electronics) this remote would be great if it used triple AAA batteries, however it uses two CR2032 batteries which it discharges within an hour after you insert them.
I bought one, it worked great after setup, but an hour later I went to use it and nothing, it was dead. I thought it was just the batteries so I bought two more, inserted them, and set it back up, and it worked fine, then an hour later, nothing, the batteries were dead again. So I took the remote back and got a replacement, got it set up, and went though the whole problem again.
So, stay clear of this remote, it is not worth it.

Nice little remote, November 20, 2009 By Swidgen (Northeast PA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Philips SRU4050/17 Universal Compact Remote (Silver/Black) (Electronics) This is a nice little remote that has all the features I needed, and I was even able to program it to work my Bose wave radio. I do have a few complaints, though. The buttons don't light up. The hinge seems really flimsy. There's a clock on the outside, but it's not lighted either and if you want to view the date you have to get a paperclip and press it into the tiny hole. Also, although having buttons on the outside of the unit is a great feature, they also operate when the remote is open. So while you're holding it open and trying to key in something on the top half of the remote, you're accidentally pushing the buttons on the outside and changing channels/volume.

The generic had a limited ability to controle the tv from far away.
The Phillips unit has more features than the generic and I can use it 20 feet away from the tv with no problem.
If you are looking for a remote that takes up little space on your stand by your chair, I would think that you would like this product.
